THE PARADOXICAL COMMANDMENTS

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.

Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.

Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.

Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.

Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.

Think big anyway.

People favor the underdogs but follow only top dogs.

Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.

Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.

Give the world the best you have anyway.

IF

IF you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream –

and not make dreams your master;

If you can think –

and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

‘ Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch,

if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son

Rudyard Kipling – 1895

LOVE POEM

“I want to see you.

Know your voice.

Recognize you when you first come ’round the corner.

Sense your scent when I come into a room you’ve just left.

Know the lift of your heel, the glide of your foot.

Become familiar with the way you purse your lips then let them part, just the slightest bit, when I lean in to your space and kiss you.

I want to know the joy of how you whisper “more”

“You were born with potential.

You were born with goodness and trust.

You were born with ideals and dreams.

You were born with greatness.

You were born with wings.

You are not meant for crawling, so don’t.

You have wings.

Learn to use them and fly.”

ON CHILDREN

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life’s

 longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love

but not your thoughts,

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,

which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them,

but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children

as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,

and He bends you with His might

that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;

For even as He loves the arrow that flies,

so He loves also the bow that is stable.

COMMENTARY

Love is not about possession. Love is to feel free to love without expectations or rewards. As Kahlil Gibran said: “If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. If they don’t, they never were.”  Love them and strengthen their souls, make them aware so that they can see for themselves.

Birds are taught to sing, taught to fly and then encouraged to leave the nest.  Beware that they grow wings as strong as those of eagles and allow them to fly. Teach them fearlessness, let them be free. Teach them not to care about others’s opinions. Teach them LOVE by loving them and if they want to fly, by all means, leave them. Think of them, not of you.

If you are afraid they will one day leave you, you will show it somehow. Enjoy them while they are around, do your very best any minute you share, teach them to laugh, teach them awareness, teach them actions and consequences, teach them to pay attention, teach them gratefulness. Give them tools.  Love is the best remedy for all, put love in  every now, just love, love and more love.

Fearful parents cannot bring up  fearless children.Remember that your fear is your responsibility, not your children’s.  They will be your mirror. They will be conditioned by your conditioning. Do not allow your emotions blind you, be stable, be aware. You would not like to see your children always in kindergarden, let them grow into healthy adults and one day be happy to see that you have fulfilled your mission. But as life is “now”, enjoy the “now”.

WHEN I ASKED GOD…

When I Asked God for Strength

He Gave Me Difficult Situations to Face

When I Asked God for Brain & Brawn

He Gave Me Puzzles in Life to Solve

When I Asked God for Happiness

He Showed Me Some Unhappy People

When I Asked God for Wealth

He Showed Me How to Work Hard

When I Asked God for Favors

He Showed Me Opportunities to Work Hard

When I Asked God for Peace

He Showed Me How to Help Others

God Gave Me Nothing I Wanted

He Gave Me Everything I Needed.

RECOMMENDATION

Promise me,

promise me this day,

while the sun is overhead

exactly at the zenith,

promise me:

Even as they strike you down

with mountains of hatred and violence;

even as they dismember you and disembowel you,

remember, brother, remember

man is not your enemy.

The only thing worthy of you is compassion-

invincible, limitless, unconditional.

Hatred will never let you face the beast in man.

One day, when you face this beast alone,

with your courage intact, with your eyes kind, untroubled,

(even as no one sees them)

out of your smile will bloom a flower.

And those who love you will behold you

across ten thousand worlds of birth and dying.

Alone again,

I will go with bent head,

knowing that love has become eternal.

On the long, rough road

the sun and the moon

will continue to shine.

COMMENTARY

Look within. Concentrate on the seer, not on the seen. The formula is extremely easy, though not applied by many. It just requires the strong, inexcusable determination to stick to it no matter what. If your thirst for Truth is not immeasurable, infinite, insatiable, the road is indeed impassable, impenetrable, unsurmountable. The obstructions or blockages are never without, but always within. The path is an untrodden one because it is oneself that has to walk it alone. Each of us has its own road with its unique lessons. One has to penetrate into it absolutely naked (without prejudices or pre conceived ideas about ANYTHING)  that is why it is the untrodden one. The change operated within depends on our flexibility to accept it because our conditioning is strong. Awareness suddenly develops and starts changing our “now”, our always “present moment” by becoming “present”. TRUTH has an inherent quality of inevitability.

At first, it is like always walking on the razor’s edge without the certainty of the result. This groundless ground is a way of no return. The one starting it has no certainty, no reassurance from the outside.  It is just the invincible faith inside that there is more to this world of form that is inexplicably escaping from our limited perception or understanding. There must exist this invincible faith that one will find it. And as “when there is a will there is a way”, one succeeds. There are no mistakes in this lonely path because all you need is inside yourself. The only help comes from within. Never doubt, never act with a divided mind, there is a strength in you that you must come to make friends with.  Men look for the Holy Grail ignoring that it is inside oneself. Take refuge in the Self because it is only there that strength lies.  It is only your lack of determination to stick to it that can fail. And if your will is strong and solid your success is sure.

What is required is the courage and honesty to face one’s mistakes, one’s own flaws, the places where one gets easily hooked and inevitably slips.  The failure to be loving and kind, to forgive or to sow peace. The universe only knows love or lack of love, that is what is read in our hearts independently of good intentions or words uttered. Give freely. Be happy to give freely: give your smile, your encouragement, your kind attitude, your laughter, your joy… There is love in this sharing. Share the gift of your freshness in a smile without expectations…Compassion is a feeling of empathy for others that motivates a desire to help and a gesture of love is really helpful. All you do ripples to others.

The capability to stop the wandering mind and use it as a servant and not be used by it is a giant step forward in your development. The mind is useful for certain tasks and no more. Discover its usefulness and discard the rest of unnecessary thoughts. “Rule your mind and do not be ruled by it.”  Be able to stop the mind.  Do not pretend to be unable or weak or lazy.  Use your limitless potential wisely.

As Ramana Maharshi states “There are no “others””. Sages say “There are no enemies.”  Look within. Observe the watcher. All the answers are inside yourself. Never look without for answers, you will never get what you are seeking if you look in the wrong places. And the only place where you will find EVERYTHING is WITHIN.

Discover who you really are. Do not miss the FUNDAMENTAL. Truth is here and now available to ALL. Face Truth and make eye contact with REALITY. But beware you cannot negotiate with the ETERNAL.

WHAT IS, IS. IT CAN SIMPLY “BE”.

THE OPTIMIST’S CREED

PROMISE YOURSELF

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness,

and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is

something worthwhile in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and

make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best

and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others

as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past

and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful expression at all times

and give a smile to every living creature you meet.

To give so much time to improving yourself

that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger,

too strong for fear, and

too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself

and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word,

but in great deeds.

To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side,

so long as you are true to the best that is in you.
