Ramana Maharshi

Ramana Maharshi the great Indian sage (1879 – 1950) has a unique way of guiding one to TRUTH. He simply states that you must realize who you really are. Realize that and all problems will be solved.

SELF – INQUIRY directly leads to REALIZATION by removing the obstacles which make you think that the SELF is not already realized.”

“There is no greater mystery than the following: Ourselves being the Reality, we seek to gain reality. We think that there is something hiding our Reality, and that it must be destroyed before the reality is gained. This is ridiculous. A day will dawn when you will yourself laugh at your past efforts. That which will be on the day you laugh is also here and now.”

“Silence is the most potent form of work.”

“The inner silence is self-surrender. And that is living without a sense of ego.”

“Silence is also conversation.”

“Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside.”

“Your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world.”

“Your duty is to be and not to be this or that. ‘I am that I am’ sums up the whole truth. The method is summed up in the words ‘Be still’. What does stillness mean? It means destroy yourself. Because any form or shape is the cause for trouble. Give up the notion that ‘I am so and so’. All that is required to realize the Self is to be still. What can be easier than that?”

“Have faith in God and in yourself; that will cure all. Hope for the best, expect the best, toil for the best and everything will come right for you in the end.”

“Wanting to reform the world without discovering one’s true self is like trying to cover the world with leather to avoid the pain of walking on stones and thorns. It is much simpler to wear shoes.”
